A partition has more than one surface.
12.5mm gypsum board is used as a lining in specified internal wall and ceiling systems. For a partition, the material order depends on the length and height of the wall, the number of faces being lined and the layers required on each face. Counting only the floor area or one wall face can substantially under-order the sheets.

A 4m long, 2.7m high partition has 10.8m² on one face. One layer on both faces needs 21.6m² of board before an allowance. Two layers on both faces doubles that to 43.2m². Stud depth, spacing, track details, fasteners and board orientation are chosen for the specified construction. Doors, glazing and fixtures introduce additional framing and support needs. A partition can help divide a room, but acoustic performance also depends on layers, cavity insulation, seals, doors and connections to other surfaces. Glass mineral wool may be included in a designed partition system. A board thickness or generic insulation roll does not establish the completed wall’s sound reduction rating.Openings do not remove all their waste
Our partition calculator does not deduct doors or windows automatically. Cutting around openings can create unusable offcuts, and extra pieces may be needed around corners or returns. For repeated walls or a larger commercial fit-out, provide a wall schedule and drawings so the final sheet layout can be reviewed.

How do I calculate 12.5mm gypsum board for a wall?
Multiply wall length by height, then by the number of faces and layers per face. Add your cutting allowance, divide by the actual sheet area and round up. The calculator shows each part of that calculation.Can the same calculator estimate a ceiling?
Yes. Select ceiling mode and enter the ceiling area in square metres. Use the sheet dimensions actually being supplied and the layers required by the ceiling design. The selected 12.5mm board must be suitable for that system.Does two layers mean one on each side?
No. In this calculator, faces and layers are separate. “Two faces” means both sides of the wall. “Two layers per face” means two sheets thick on each selected side, so two faces with two layers uses four times the single-face area.Is 12.5mm gypsum board automatically fire-rated?
No. A fire-resistance period relates to a particular tested or specified assembly. The correct board grade, layers, frame, fasteners, joints and penetrations all matter. Ask for the required system rather than assuming the thickness provides a rating.Can you include insulation and doors in the quote?
